Description

1902 The News Printing Company, Oberlin, Ohio. Unpaginated. Red cloth with gilt lettering. Flowered endpapers. Corners bumped, a little browning at page edges, very good. The author collected essays from various women about ways women can earn a living. Some are positive, some quite negative, one at least is downright opposed to women working. There are photos of many, but not all of the women. It’s rather depressing to read through, what with all the china painting and dressmaking and similar suggestions. We’ve come a long way, baby. Very Ohio-centric, with one piece written by Corinna Parker from Tiffin, with tales of successful women. The first woman lawyer, by the way, was from Tiffin. A beautiful copy of a scarce book.
